about

“Sung with resonant soulfulness, [Flatlands] ought to become the Midwest’s national anthem.” -Village Voice

“Country album of the year [2008].” -The Isthmus

Flatlands was recorded on September 3rd, 2007 at Topsoil Studios in Oshkosh, WI.

Although not intended to be a “concept” album by the usual meaning of the word, the record does have a fairly clear concept: With the exception of a few fiddle and organ overdubs done months later, Flatlands was recorded live in a single day. The order of the songs appear in the same order in which they were recorded, which is also the same order in which they were written chronologically. The few overdubs you hear were recorded with the assistance of Teddy Pedriana, at his home studio.

Shauncey Ali (fiddle), Erik Anderson (organ), Chris Boeger (upright bass), Adam Cargin (drums), Adam Davis (telecaster), Josh Harty (guitar, vocals), Justin Perkins (mellotron), Matt Turner (cello). Engineered, mixed and mastered by Justin Perkins. Hooting and hollering done with the help of Robby Schiller, Kevin Rhodes & Chris Billingsley. Design and layout by Adam Cargin.
